In February of 2009 the Ontario government implemented new changes to the Ontario Provincial Nominee Program which name was currently changed to Opportunities Ontario: Provincial Nominee Program.

The program was previously open only to a limited number of occupations whereas according to the recent changes it has become available to all NOC O, A or B. The program is intended for foreign workers (under the condition that they have an offer of employment from an Ontario employer), international students (studying/graduating from any publicly-funded Canadian institution provided that they also have an offer of employment from an Ontario employer) and investors (with the size of the investment of at least $3,000,000 and employing at least 5 employees provided that they also obtain an official endorsement from an Ontario ministry).

The processing of applications within the program consists of 2 parts (employer’s preapproval and nominee’s application processing stage) and the Ontario government aims to complete each part within 90 days on a first-come-first-served basis. OOPNP Nominees’ application for PR are said to benefit from expedited processing.
