Poland flagSlovakia flagLIthuania flagHungary flag From March 1, 2008 citizens of Poland, Slovakia, Lithuania and Hungary no longer require a temporary resident visa to visit Canada.

According to Citizenship and Immigration Canada, In 2006 there were 33,363 temporary resident visas issued for citizens of Poland, 3,780 for citizens of Slovakia, 989 for citizens of Lithuania and 6,385 for citizens of Hungary.

Now after the visa requirements have been lifted, it is expected that even more visitors from these European countries will be coming for a temporary stay in Canda every year - visa free.

Another possible consequence is a fraudlent activity in and around these countries connected with passports and citizenship. It is well-known that there are lots of people in the world willing to obtain a legal status in Canada by all means. Now one more backdoor is revealed - any visitor to Canada, with or without TRV, may turn himself into a refugee claimant in no time, initiating a long and expensive refugee proceedings.
