No one can know in advance if his temporary resident visa application will be approved or not by the visa office. But there are some factors that an applicant should take into account - the factors that are considered when the decision is made in regards to every application.

Dual intent

There is only one very important reason why an applicant may get a negative decision in his case. It is a so called dual intent, that means that visa office does not believe that some particular visitor will leave Canada when the term of his stay expire. When applying for a visitor visa an applicant must provide enough evidence showing his intention to leave Canada instead of staying in the country illegally.  Major factors considered by visa offices are briefly explained below.

Family status

If an applicant does not have family at all, or his entire family is included in the application for visitor visas, or his family is already in Canada, there will be serious doubts about his intention to leave Canada. In all these cases applicant have nothing to lose if he decides to stay in Canada after his temporary visa expires.

Records of previous travels

It is a good sign for visa office when passport submitted with an application already has some visas of different countries with records showing that applicant has obeyed terms of stay in different countries. Of course, previous Canadian temporary visas are of high importance in such case.

Personal property

If an applicant does not possess any significant property in his country (house, condo or cottage for example) it can contribute to officer's decision to decline the application. Otherwise, if an applicant does leave some property in his country going to Canada, it is considered as an extra factor showing his intention to return.

Being employed or running a business

Applicant, occupying a good position with his employer or running his own business may be considered a successfull person willing to continue carreer or develop business in his country. This can contribute towards positive decision in the case.

Clarity and completeness of submitted paperwork

It makes a positive impression when all paper submitted when applying for a temporary visa are complete, straightforward and do not contain contradictory statements. For example, if cover letter shows that a hotel have already been booked in Canada, and in the invitation letter it is said that inviting party is willing to accomodate the applicant, it may be infered that invitation is not genuine.
