Currently immigration manuals mandate that once an officer has determined that a study permit applicant meets the study permit requirements, an officer is to minimize further  unnecessary transactions with the student, which is to issue a long-term study permit, along with a long-term multiple-entry temporary resident visa, if applicable. In most cases, the recommended length for a study permit depends on the type of studies and will usually be up to the time of expected graduation plus 90 days.
